Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has dismissed reports suggesting he alleged that the United States targeted him during recent airstrikes on terrorists in Sokoto State.
In a post on his official Facebook page on Sunday, Gumi clarified that a circulating video being linked to the report was old and was taken out of context.
He explained that the video referred to a 2012 incident in which he was reportedly threatened by people linked to the Boko Haram sect.
Gumi stressed that there was currently no threat to his life and described the viral report as fake news.
According to him, “I never said I was targeted by any US attack. I am at home with my family, safe and without fear.”
He added that the misunderstanding likely came from a lecture where he recalled past threats in 2012, urging media outlets that carried the false report to withdraw it and apologise.
