A Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Friday, struck out the appeal filed by a former lecturer of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Richard Akindele, who was convicted for demanding sex for marks from one of his students, Monica Osagie.
In 2018, Akindele was sentenced to a six-year imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, having been found guilty of the offence.
The management of the university had consequently fired the randy lecturer for the offence.
He had served and completed his jail term and was released from prison in 2020.
He, however, challenged his conviction on the grounds that the High Court lacked the jurisdiction to try him.
But the appellate court in its verdict dismissed Akindele’s appeal and upheld the judgment of the High Court. (The Punch)
