Afrobeat artiste, Seun Kuti, has explained why he slapped a police officer in a recent viral video.

The afrobeat crooner was recently captured in a viral video assaulting a police operative on duty.

Reacting via his Instastory on Saturday, Kuti said the officer attempted to kill him and his family members.

He said the policeman had apologized, and he had forgiven him.

He warned those saying he was chasing clout to mind their business and not let the police officer lose his job.

Kuti wrote, “He tried to kill me and my family. I have the proof, but I no dey chase clout. He has apologised and I have agreed not to press charges.

“Make una mind una business make the poor guy no lose him job.”

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, had reportedly ordered the arrest of Seun Kuti over the incident in the viral video.

The IGP had ordered a speedy and full investigation into the cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the famous singer.

Kuti was seen in a viral video slapping a police officer on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Saturday.

This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday, May 13, by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

Baba further assured Nigerians that “acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders of such hideous crimes will be surely brought to book.”
