SERAP to Buhari: Release Aminu Adamu Muhammad or face legal action

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari administration to immediately and unconditionally release Aminu Adamu Muhammad, a 23–year old student of student of the Federal University, Dutse who is reportedly arrested over a post on Twitter allegedly criticizing the first lady or face legal action.

Aminu Adamu Muhammed who was arrested on 8 November 2022 at midnight by security operatives suspected to be DSS operatives, over a tweet deemed to be demeaning to the person of the first lady of Nigeria Aisha Buhari.

On 29 November 2022, Aminu Adamu Muhammed was charged with Cybercrime, Cybersquatting, Computer Related Forgery, Conspiracy and Criminal Breach of Trust.
Aminu Adamu Muhammed’s final exams are scheduled for 5 December 2022 at Federal University Dutse.
“The Buhari administration must immediately and unconditionally release Aminu Adamu Muhammad, a student of the Federal University, Dutse who is reportedly arrested over a post on Twitter allegedly criticizing the first lady.
“Freedom of expression is a fundamental right. We’ll see in court if he’s not immediately released,” SERAP said.
