Nigerian Senate has launched an inquiry into alleged funding link between the United States Agency for International Aides (USAID) and the dreaded Boko Haram terrorist group.

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, the hotbed of Boko Haram decades-old activities in the North East part of Nigeria, on Wednesday led eight other Senators to push the Senate to launch the probe.

The Senate has consequently summoned the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Director Generals of the Department of State Services (DSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) to appear before it to speak to the issue.

The meeting expected to hold behind closed doors, will give insight to the particular diclosure made by Scott Perry, a US Republican Congressman, last week to the effect that the USAID was major sponsor of the dreaded group, reputed to have killed more than 50,000 people and displaced millions of other natives in the affected states in the North East.

The probe is coming on the heels of a similar investigation already being carried out by the US Congress, after Ndume, raised the alarm on the floor of the red chamber via a motion of urgent national importance entitled: “Urgent Need to Investigate the Alleged Funding of Boko Haram by the United States Agency for International Development, USAID.”

The Senate, after debate on the motion, consequently resolved to summon the NSA, the Director-General of DSS, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, and his counterparts in NIA and DIA behind closed doors on a day to be communicated to them.
