The Senate on Thursday passed the harmonised version of the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB.

This was even as the report of the Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, by the Chairman, Kabiru Gaya, was received and considered.

The report centered on the confirmation of Sani Adam, which was stepped down because of petitions against him.

Senator Gaya told the Senate that his Committee had received more information, particularly on his retirement which the petitioner allegedly called “dismissal”.

The Senate, as a result, moved to confirm his confirmation.

On Petroleum Industry Bill, the Leader of the Senate, Yahaya Abubakar presented the Conference Committee Report that harmonised the version passed by the Senate with that passed by the House of Representatives.

Senator Thompson’s plea that the report be considered clause-by-claude to afford him the opportunity to revisit the clause on the 3 per cent for Host Communities Trust Fund, was rejected.

Therefore, the report was passed amid protests by some members who has wanted to walk out.
