The Nigerian Senate confirmed on Thursday the nominees of President Bola Tinubu to serve as Director General and Executive Commissioners of the Security and Exchange Commission, SEC.
The Senate adopted a report submitted to the Committee of Whole by the Committee on Capital Market, chaired by Senator Osita Izunaso, representing the Imo West Senatorial District.
Izunaso explained that nominees have been screened in line with the mandate of the Committee as referred to them, without finding any one of them wanting, adding that the Committee thoroughly investigated their past and found them competent, and educationally sound to serve in the SEC.
“Their knowledge of the industry adds credence to the need to engage them,” he said.
After debate on the report by some senators, the Senate confirmed Mr. Emomotimi John Agama as Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, while others were confirmed as Commissioners.
The new appointees are Samiya Usman, a full-time commissioner; Abimbola Oyebola Ajomale, a full-time commissioner; and Frana Chukwuogor, also a full-time commissioner.
