In response to the controversy surrounding the budgetary provisions for the procurement of a yacht, the Senate Committee on Navy, under the leadership of Otunba Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of Ogun State and the current representative for Ogun East Senatorial District, has taken a proactive step to investigate the issue.
Recall that since the news of the intended procurement leaked in the media, it has generated controversy with many Nigerians pointing the finger at the presidency for being insensitive.
The committee said it had decided to take the initiative to investigate the circumstances and issues surrounding the controversial yacht within a concise timeframe of one week.
The uproar over the potential acquisition of the yacht has gained substantial attention since it was first disclosed in the media.
Many Nigerians had voiced their concerns and criticism, with a significant number expressing displeasure about how such a luxury item could find its way into the Supplementary Budget.
Given the conflicting and contradictory reports circulating in the media regarding the yacht’s acquisition, Otunba Daniel, at the helm of the Senate Committee on Navy, had identified the need for a thorough investigation.
The primary objective is to uncover the facts, dispel uncertainties, and provide the public with an accurate and comprehensive understanding of the situation.

Apart from the investigation, the Committee also resolved to visit all naval facilities across the country with a view to prioritizing training and welfare of naval personnel and veterans, while emphasizing the need for improved funding for the Nigerian Navy to perform their critical role in the nation’s economic and security sector
The Committee further resolved to promote the modernization of the Nigerian Navy’s fleet, enhance its operational capabilities, and push for naval research and development agencies.
