A former Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Segun Oni, has described the late former Governor of the old Ondo State, Evangelist Bamidele Olumilua, as a leader of leaders, endowed with integrity, transparency and incorruptibility.
Oni said this in a letter of condolence to the family of the late elder statesman who died on Thursday, May 4, 2020 in his hometown, Ikere Ekiti, at the age of 80 years.
The letter of condolence was signed by Oni but delivered, on his behalf, by Barr. Gani Faniyi and five others, and received by the wives of the deceased, Bolatito and Yimika, and other family members specially led by Hon. Muyiwa Olumilua, the Ekiti State Honorable Commissioner for Information, Tourism, and Value Orientation.
In the message of condolence, Oni, described the late politician as “our leader, who has gone to rest at the bosom of the Lord.”
He said, “A person of faith and character, and with time honored services to God and mankind like our elder statesman cannot die but only changed his body to be able to be with the Lord as our flesh cannot take us there.”
Oni concluded that the late Olumilua “gave his honest, transparent and incorruptible services as the Governor of the old Ondo State and career Ambassador for Nigeria.”
While praying to God for the repose of the soul of the late Olumilua, who he further described a “our leader of leaders”, Oni said “we shall sorely miss you.”
Honorable Muyiwa Olumilua, responding on behalf of the family, welcomed the delegates and thanked Chief Segun Oni for his records and antecedents of always being with the family and especially his father.
He said he was sure that but for his being in Abuja now and the interstate ban on movement of persons because of the current coronavirus pandemic, former Governor Oni would have now been part of the family as a “chief mourner”.
The commissioner gave good reminiscences of the relationship among Chief Segun Oni, his father and himself and which were corroborated by the wives of the late politician.
Hon. Olumilua advised politicians to always not allow political labels to separate or blur their good intentions for the interests of the greatest number of members of the society, which should be their primary focus.
