Second IBB Legacy Dialogue and Lecture hold in Abuja, interrogate issues in Africa’s democratic journey

Select academics and other eminent Nigerians will converge on Abuja on Thursday, August 25, 2022 to offer perspectives on Africa’s democratic journey.

The significant 2022 IBB Legacy Dialogue and Lecture provide the platform of engagements that hold in their vast flourish at the International Conference Centre.

An official invite to the event signed by Prince Kassim Afegbua, a spokesperson of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) said a key lecture on the occasion would be given by Professor Jibrin Ibrahim.

The lecture will provide the intellectual, philosophical and sociological bases and contexts for other discussants to dissect the essential theme of the lecture.

According to Afegbua, “The broad theme of this year’s Dialogue is ‘Issues in Africa’s Democratic Journey’.

“This year’s Dialogue and the lecture are set against the immediate backdrop of Nigeria’s 2023 transition election and the issues surrounding the triumphs and travails of democracy in the country.

“The dialogue will feature a lecture from Prof. Jibrin Ibrahim and discussions from personalities like Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, Prof. Ladi Hamalai, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, Dr. Musa Babayo etc.

“The event will be hosted by the FCT Minister Malam Muhammed Musa Bello while Arc. Muhammed Namadi Sambo will be the chairman of the occasion.

“The chief executive convener of the event is Her Excellency, Aisha Babangida.

“The major issues that will be canvassed at this year’s Dialogue include the following:

• Issues arising from the 2022 Electoral Bill
• Monetization of the Electoral Process
• Voters Education and Citizens’ Participation in the Electoral Process
• Campaigning around Issues and policies
• Internal Security and Free and Fair elections
• Democracy and Basic Freedom in Nigeria
• Judiciary and the Elections
• Towards an Inclusive Democracy

“The lecture and Dialogue event are scheduled to take place on 25th August, 2022, at the International Conference Center, Abuja at 10 am.

“The audience will be global via live television and internet streaming as well as a select live audience of government and political leaders, business and corporate leaders, the diplomatic community, local and international media as well as the academia.”
