Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved a 20 per cent salary increase for civil servants in the state.
This was disclosed via a tweet by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, on his Twitter account on Monday.
Akosile stated that Sanwo-Olu approved the salary increment on Monday, adding that the increment would affect civil servants in the mainstream public service, Local Government Areas, Local Council Development Areas, and SUBEB.
“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, today, approves a 20 per cent increase in the salaries of civil servants in the mainstream public service, Local Government Areas & Local Council Development Areas as well as SUBEB.
“New salary structure takes effect from January 1, 2023,” the CPS tweeted.
The salary increment comes a few hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Sanwo-Olu as the winner of the March 18 gubernatorial election in Lagos State.
The Returning Officer of the election, Prof. Adenike Oladeji, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, declared that Sanwo-Olu polled 762,134 votes to defeat Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP) who scored 312,329 votes, while Olajide Adeniran of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) occupied the third position with 62,449 votes.
