The Rivers State Government says it is committed to creating a transparent, predictable, inclusive, and investment-friendly business environment to drive economic growth and sustainable development.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara stated this on Friday during the Technical Workshop on Business-Enabling Reforms and Investment Competitiveness in Port Harcourt.

The workshop was organised by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council, PEBEC, in collaboration with the Rivers State Investment Promotion Agency, RSIPA.

The governor’s remarks were contained in a press statement signed by Juliana Masi, PhD, Head of Information and Public Relations Unit, Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

Represented by Secretary to the State Government Dr. Dagogo Wokoma, Governor Fubara said his administration remains focused on positioning Rivers as a preferred destination for investment through policies and reforms that encourage business growth.

“As one of Nigeria’s leading commercial and industrial hubs, Rivers State possesses enormous potential. Our responsibility is to transform these advantages into sustainable economic opportunities through deliberate reforms, strong institutions, and effective governance,” he said.

The governor noted that Rivers occupies a strategic position in Nigeria’s economy, with a vibrant population, abundant natural resources, maritime assets, and a thriving entrepreneurial culture. He added that his administration is building an environment that attracts both local and international investors while fostering enterprise and innovation across key sectors.

He said global evidence shows growth accelerates when governments provide enabling conditions for businesses. That understanding, he added, continues to guide the state’s support for initiatives that promote investment, improve institutional coordination, and enhance competitiveness.

Governor Fubara described the workshop as a platform for stakeholders to assess challenges, exchange experiences, and develop solutions to strengthen the state’s investment ecosystem. He said the forum will also help align government policies with global best practices while keeping them responsive to local needs.

PEBEC Director General Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu thanked the state government for the opportunity to enlighten stakeholders. She said PEBEC, established by the Presidency, is working to strengthen enterprises and unlock economic opportunities nationwide, and reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to bold reforms that boost investor confidence.

RSIPA Director General Dr. Peterside Chamberline said the agency’s task is to create an environment where businesses can operate, jobs can be created, and taxes can be handled with ease. “We know that private sector investment is the driver of economic development and progress. We are creating and making Rivers State the preferred investment destination,” he said.
