Rivers: Fubara restates commitment to reduce youth unemployment

Gov. Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, on Tuesday in Port Harcourt restated his administration’s commitment to reduce youths unemployment in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
Fubara made this known at the swearing in ceremony of the 2024 Batch A Stream II National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members at the Orientation camp, Nonwa-Gbam Tai, Rivers.
Fubara was represented at the occasion by Mr Samson Dede, the Permanent Secretary, Special Services Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the state government.
Fubara said that his administration’s social contract to give the best dividends of democracy to the people of Rivers was sacrosanct, steadfast and resolute.
“This administration will continue to give priority to the welfare of the youths, especially corps members by providing for them an enabling environment to discover and harness their God-given potentials.
“We will never lose focus in fulfilling our promises to uplift the quality of life of the youths as the bedrock of the society, and by so doing, make Rivers state the envy of other states,” he said.
Fubara commended the efforts of the NYSC management for their strategic improvement in the operation of the scheme to make corps members to become self-employed at the end of their service year.
The Governor urged the NYSC to continue to be reliable and dependable partners in improving the lot of the citizens of the state.
He also advised corps members to use the knowledge gained through the NYSC SAED programme to boost the country’s economy.
In his address, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr George Mfongang, commended the corps members for their zeal and enthusiasm in imbibing the core values of the scheme.
He also commended them for actively participating in camp programmes and activities.
Mfongang advised the corps members to take seriously the camp’s skill acquisition training and lectures on security consciousness.
The oath of allegiance was administered by the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Chibuzo Amadi, represented by Justice Lemea Ngbor-Abina.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 1,906 corps members, comprising 1,010 males and 896 females were sworn in at the occasion. (NAN)
