The Rivers State House of Assembly has given Governor Sim Fubara 48 hours to present the 2025 budget to the lawmakers.

This request was made during plenary in Port Harcourt on Monday.

Governor Fubara had previously signed the ₦1.1 trillion 2025 budget into law on January 2nd, after presenting it to the lawmakers led by Victor Oko-Jumbo.

However, following a recent Supreme Court ruling, which recognized Martin Amaewhule and his group of lawmakers as the legitimate members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, the Assembly now demands that Governor Fubara ahould present the budget bill, which he had labeled the “Budget of Inclusive Growth and Development.”

The Supreme Court ruling also instructed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to withhold allocations to Rivers State until it addressed its defiance of court orders.

Additionally, the court annulled the local government elections held in the state last year.

In response, Governor Fubara has ordered new elections for the local governments, aligning with the court’s directive.

Furthermore, Fubara instructed that the Heads of Local Government Administration to take over the management of the 23 local government councils until fresh elections were held.
