The House of Representatives has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to approve the establishment of Nigeria Police Academy campuses in all six geo-political zones, in line with the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021.

The resolution followed the adoption of a motion by Hon. Kalejaiye Adeboye Paul (APC, Lagos), who stressed the need to expand the institution beyond its current single campus in Wudil, Kano State.

Lawmakers called on the Academy’s Governing Council to immediately begin implementing the Act’s provisions, transforming the Academy into a multi-campus university to boost police training, security, and national development.

The House also tasked the National Universities Commission (NUC) with supporting the expansion by considering proposals for new campuses from the Academy’s Governing Council.

To drive the initiative, the House directed its Committees on Police Institutions, Police Affairs, University Education, and Appropriations to work with the Academy’s management to ensure necessary legislative and budgetary support.

While leading the debate, Kalejaiye highlighted Section 3 of the Act, which empowers the Police Academy, under the oversight of its Governing Council and subject to NUC approval, to establish additional colleges, faculties, and units across the country.

He argued that the continued operation of only one campus undermines the Academy’s potential, and that setting up campuses in each zone will promote inclusiveness and improve access to quality police training nationwide.
