Reps committee awaits convergence of views on cause of NECO Registrar’s death; describes incident as shocking

House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Services, on Tuesday, said it was awaiting a convergence of views on the cause of the death of Registrar of the National Examination Council, NECO, Professor Godswill Obioma, even it described his death as untimely, shocking, and sad.

In a condolence message jointly signed by the Chair and Deputy Chair, Professor Julius Ihonvbere and Hon. Usman Zanna respectively, the committee said while they awaited a convergence of views between the family and NECO on the cause of his death, it mourned the departure of an astute academic, top-rate researcher, creative administrator and technocrat par excellence.

According to the commiittee: “His contributions to the education sector in Nigeria at the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), advisor to three different ministers among others, and until his death, NECO will remain important hallmarks in Nigeria’s growth and development process.

“We pray that God grants the family the strength to bear the irreparable loss. Our condolences to the Chairman, Council members and entire staff members of NECO on the sad loss. May the soul of Professor Godswill Obioma rest in perfect peace.”
