The Osun State Local Government Service Commission Chairman, Elder Tunde Adedeji, has charged media professionals in the state to be objective in their reportage of events.

The charge was given by the Chairman while playing host to members of Executive Committee of Osun NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel, in his office.

He said there was the need for journalists to be fair, objective and balance in their reports in order to promote unity and peace in the society.

Elder Adedeji who commended the correspondents in the state for being alive to their responsibility of educating members of the public, stressed that “people rely mainly on the information released to the general public by the media”, saying “journalists should do their job judiciously as they are the watchdog of the society.”

He said he was of the opinion that thorough investigation must be carried out before reporting any event, adding that “it is necessary for members of the fourth estate of the realm to sharpen their skills regularly.”

He however implored them to support the present administration in Osun by laying more emphasis on “the monumental achievements of Governor Gboyega Oyetola”, which he said had done tremendously well in terms of infrastructure development.

He said that within a short time in office, the administration had been able to traverse all aspects of the State.

Coordinating Director of the agency, Barr. Lekan Babalola said the role of journalists in the country could not be over-emphasised.

He encouraged them not to relent in contributing their quota to the development of the State and the Nation.

In his reaction, the Chairman of the Correspondent Chapel of NUJ, Mr Tunji Omofoye, noted that the visit was to acquit the Commission with the New Executives of the Union as well as to collaborate with the agency in view of its important role played at the grassroot level.

Other executive members of the correspondents’ chapel during the visit were the Vice-Chairman – Richard Akintade, Secretary-Lateef Agboola, Assistant Secretary-Ayobami Agboola, Financial Secretary-Deborah Oladejo and Auditor-Sunday Oguntuyi.
