Remains of veteran journalist, Dr. Collins Atohengbe will be buried on 22nd November 2025

Remains of veteran broadcaster and former Bureau Chief of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Dr. Deacon Collins Nosa Atohengbe who died on 7th October this year in a brief illness, are set for burial on the 22nd of November, 2025, in his village, Oke Irhue in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State.

According to his family, Dr. Collins, who was born on 1st January 1956 and died at 69, will have a Service of Songs to hold at the RCCG Triumphant Assembly Mega Zone at Redemption Camp, Lagos on Wednesday 19th November.

His widow, A Director of Training at VON, Mrs. Funke Mercy Atohengbe will lead the children and other family members to accompany the body of Dr. Collins from the mortuary on Saturday 22nd November at noon for burial in his hometown.

The late Dr. Collins and his wife, Funke whose marriage will be 32 years this December did not have a child in 20 of their 32 years conjugation and the only child, a boy will be 12 years old in December.

The Veteran Broadcaster was a former VON State House correspondent between 2003-2005.

He was Head of Swahili Service ,Voice of Nigeria, before was transferred to South Africa to head VON’s Bureau for Southern Africa in Pretoria. He retired from active service in 2013 as a Deputy Director, Programmes.

Dr. Collins studied History and International Relations at the Lagos State University and studied Kiswahili Language at the Kiswahili Institute of Foreign Languages in Zanzibar, Tanzania which enabled him to string at different times for the BBC, VOA and Channel Africa, the international Radio arm of the SABC in Kiswahili and English languages.

The well respected Veteran Journalist among the Gallery of the Media in Nigeria was a great moderator of the Guild of Broadcasters Forum.

The Chief Executive of Patmos Media Nigerian Limited, Rev. Eniola Olatunji said he recalled with nostalgia his immense contributions to the lectures he gave to the Broadcasters Forum on RADIO INTERVIEW; SPORTS COMMENTARIES ON RADIO etc which attracted attention of the present breed of Broadcasters and the de la crème of the Microphone profession.
