Rehabilitation of National Assembly to gulp N30b, says FCT minister

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Muhammad Bello, has said the ongoing rehabilitation of the National Assembly complex will gulp N30 billion.

Bello said this while addressing senators during an oversight function by the Senate Committee on FCT in Thursday in Abuja.

The minister said out of the N30,229,290,830.35 contractual sum meant to carry out the rehabilitation, N9.2 billion had been paid to the contractor, leaving an outstanding balance of N21.029 billion.

He said the National Assembly’s Phase II, popularly called “the White House”, was maintained from 1996 to 1999 by ITB Nigeria Limited and added that no major rehabilitation works that had been carried out on the building over the years.

Bello said the contract for the rehabilitation of the complex was awarded on December 30, 2021 with a completion period of 16 months at N30,229,290,830.35 out of which N9.2 billion had been paid to the contractor.

“The commencement date is April 16 and it is expected to be completed on August 15, 2023,” he said.
