Pyrate confraternity, NCoS forge alliance in Bayelsa to transform inmates, tackle crime

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Bayelsa State Command, has initiated a partnership with the National Association of Seadogs- Pyrates Confraternity (NAS PC) – to enhance inmate rehabilitation and crime prevention in the state.

The Controller of Corrections, Imo Ikahokhuele, paid a courtesy visit to the NAS PC, Oxbow Marino Deck, on Tuesday, to explore areas of collaboration between the two organisations.

Controller Imo Ikahokhuele, who assumed his role on May 19, 2025, was received by Capoon Engr. Adogbeji Egbonoje.

Ikahokhuele commended NAS PC’s longstanding support for the Correctional Service, noting that his review of handover documents revealed opportunities to enhance partnerships for inmate rehabilitation and crime prevention.

In his address, Engr. Egbonoje highlighted NAS PC’s history, mission, and dedication to humanistic values.

He announced plans to donate a classroom block for a literacy program at the Correctional Centre and introduced the Legal Assistance and Citizens Rights Initiative (LACRI), a NAS PC program offering free legal services to inmates.

Both parties expressed optimism about the potential impact of their collaboration, with Ikahokhuele emphasizing the importance of educational and legal support in reducing recidivism.

He pledged the NCoS’s commitment to work closely with NAS PC to implement these initiatives, fostering a rehabilitative environment that empowers inmates to reintegrate into society as productive citizens.

The visit concluded with the signing of the Visitors’ Register and a group photograph, symbolizing the strengthened bond between Oxbow Marino Deck and the Bayelsa NCoS Command.
