Russian President Vladimir Putin said Africa is fast becoming a major force in global affairs and reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to deepening ties with African countries.

In a message to African heads of state and government for Africa Day 2026, Putin praised the continent’s growing influence in international diplomacy and its push for a global order based on equality and mutual respect. He described Africa Day as a symbol of the continent’s struggle against colonialism and its pursuit of freedom, peace, and prosperity.

Putin noted progress in Africa’s economic growth, regional cooperation, and social development despite global pressures and security challenges. He commended the African Union and sub-regional bodies for strengthening integration and building mechanisms to address conflicts and crises.

The Russian president said Russia values its “traditionally friendly relations” with African states and shares a vision of a multipolar world free from domination and external interference. He expressed hope that the Third Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow in October would expand cooperation in trade, energy, security, education, technology, and infrastructure.
