In a recent development, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has taken swift action to address a grave concern by directing the Nigeria Police Force to immediately deactivate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals responsible for creating a fraudulent Facebook account impersonating the Commission.
In an official statement, PSC Head, Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani said this alarming discovery was made over the weekend when the Commission stumbled upon a counterfeit Facebook account, which, as of Saturday, September 23rd, 2023, had already amassed an astounding 22,000 members and 1,700 followers.
The account was falsely attributed to one Prosper Stephen.
“The PSC wishes to emphasize that Prosper Stephen is entirely unknown to the Commission and holds no affiliation with any of its official social media platforms.
“This impersonation raises significant concerns, particularly in light of the Commission’s ongoing preparations for the 2023 Police recruitment exercise.
“The PSC fears that these fraudsters could exploit the fake social media presence to undermine future recruitment efforts.
“In light of these findings, the Commission strongly advises all Nigerians to exercise caution and avoid engaging with these malicious actors who may exploit the Facebook platform to defraud desperate job seekers.
“The PSC is resolute in its commitment to unmask and prosecute any individuals involved in this criminal activity.
“The Commission urges citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report any individuals soliciting payments for participation in Commission programs to their nearest police station.
“The PSC affirms its unwavering dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring equal opportunities for all Nigerian citizens.
“The Police Service Commission remains steadfast in its mission to maintain the integrity of its operations and to safeguard the interests of the Nigerian public against fraudulent activities,” the Commission said.
