The Police Service Commission (PSC) announced the promotion of four officers teaching at the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano, who recently earned their PhDs.
According to Head, Press, and Public Relations Ikechukwu Ani, these promotions, granted at an extraordinary Management Meeting on October 29, 2024, reflected the Commission’s commitment to advancing merit-based career development.
The promoted officers include CSP Favour Fadawag, who was elevated to Assistant Commissioner of Police, and Inspectors Shide Sunday, Oparaji Benjamin Chetachi Ukwu, and Benjamin Wanger, who advanced to Assistant Superintendents of Police.
The PSC noted that these ranks are provisional, pending further confirmation for appropriate placements.
PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Retd), who presided over the meeting, affirmed the Commission’s intention to consider other officers with additional qualifications, particularly those in professional roles like law.
He emphasized that the PSC will prioritize merit, accountability, and transparency, aiming to foster greater dedication among officers.
The Chairman also pledged that all academy lecturers with new qualifications would be considered for promotion.
Additionally, he reiterated the PSC’s firm stance against corruption, announcing that its whistleblowing policy would soon extend to the Police Academy and Colleges.
Any personnel implicated in bribery or corruption will face stringent consequences, including dismissal.
DIG Taiwo Lakanu (Retd) praised the PSC leadership for championing the advancement of academically qualified officers and reaffirmed support for ongoing reforms to uplift the Nigerian Police Force.
