The Police Service Commission, PSC, has given its approval for the appointment and deployment of eight Commissioners of Police to various State Commands across the country.
According to Ikechukwu Ani, the Head of Press and Public Relations at the Commission, the Commission also praised the acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for adhering to its latest policy on gender sensitivity in his recommendations.
However, the Commission said it expected the Inspector General to include more officers from the North East and South East geopolitical zones in his future proposals.
These zones, it said, had not yet reached the benchmark of 15 percent representation, which was decided upon at the last plenary meeting.
The newly appointed State Commissioners of Police are as follows: Godwin Aghaulor, now CP of Bornu State Command; Adelesi E. Oluwarotimi, CP of Kwara State Command; Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, CP of Oyo State Command; Augustina Ogbodo, CP of Ebonyi State Command; and Samuel Titus Musa, CP of Kebbi State Command.
Additionally, Aderemi Olufemi Adeoye is the CP of Anambra State Command, Stephen Olarewaju is the CP of Imo State Command, and Alamatu Abiodun Mustapha is the CP of Ogun State Command.
The Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Solomon Arase, CFR, a retired Inspector General of Police, stated that the recommended postings by the acting Inspector General were, on average, fair.
He commended the IGP for including women in the appointments.
Dr. Arase advised the acting IGP to consider the underprivileged geo-political zones while submitting future proposals for the Commission’s approval.
