2. Confirmation of the Nomination of Muhammad Sabo Lamido for Appointment as Executive Commissioner, Finance and Accounts for the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission by Senate Leader Senator Abdullahi Gobir
Senate Leader Senator Abdullahi Gobir moved that the Senate do consider the request of Mr. President C-in-C on the Confirmation of the Nomination of Muhammad Sabo Lamido for Appointment as Executive Commissioner, Finance and Accounts for the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory in accordance with the provison of Section 11(3) of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021.

3. Promissory Note Programme to settle outstanding claims in respect of Export Expansion Grant (EEG) Scheme by Senate Leader, Senator Abdullahi Gobir
Senate Leader, Senator Abdullahi Gobir moved that the Senate do consider the request of Mr. President C-in-C on the Confirmation of the establishment of a Promissory Note Programme in tne sum N375,874,569.00 to settle outstanding claims owed to various exporters from 2007-2020 in respect of Export Expansion Grant (EEG) Scheme.

4. Issuance of Promissory Notes to Kebbi and Taraba State Government for the construction of Federal Roads by Senate Leader, Senator Abdullahi Gobir
Senate Leader, Senator Abdullahi Gobir moved that the Senate do consider the issuance of Promissory Notes in the sum of N6,706,835,495.12 only for Kebbi State Government and N2,470,525,729,53 only for Taraba State Government for the construction of Federal Roads in their respective states.

Senate Leader, Senator Abdullahi Gobir moved that the Senate do consider the issuance of Promissory Note in the sum of N18,663,843,119.39 only for Yobe State Government for the construction of Federal Roads.

CONFIRMATION OF NOMINATION
Confirmation of the Nomination of Honourable Justice Olukayode Ariwoola for Appointment as Chief Justice of Nigeria by Senate Leader, Senator Abdullahi Gobir.
Senate Leader, Senator Abdullahi Gobir moved that the Senate do consider the request of Mr. President C-in-C on the confirmation of the Nomination of Honourable Justice Olukayode Ariwoola for Appointment as Chief Justice of Nigeria in accordance with Section 231(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

Senate resolved to rescind its decision on the Bills as passed and re-commit same to the Committee of the Whole for re-consideration and passage.

CONSIDERATION OF BILLS FOR SECOND READING
1. A Bill for an Act to Amend the Federal High Court Act, Cap. F12, LEN, 2004 to increase the number of Judges of the Federal High Court from 100 to 172 and Repeal the Federal High Court (Amendment) Act 2013 and for related matters, 2022 (SB. 1038) by Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege
Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, in his lead debate said that the Bill is to enable the court attend optimally to its increased burden.
“It is fitting to ensure that we have appropriate number of Judges to be able to attend to huge number of responsibilities facing the court. I rise to second this very important Bill by the Deputy Senate President.” – Senator Sirajudeen Ajibola Basiru
“I stand to add my voice in support to this Bill. The Federal High Court is one court that unifies everybody. I don’t think the number needs to increase to 145. What is important is that, every state, equitably, on the basis of Federal Character is fairly represented.” – Senator Opeyemi Bamidele
The Bill was read the Second Time and referred to the Committee on judiciary, human rights and legal matters to report back within four weeks.
