Senate President Godswill Akpabio led the Principal Officers into the Chamber, took the official prayers and began the day’s proceedings at 11:15am.

EXECUTIVE COMMUNICATION
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read a letter from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the Confirmation of Appointment of the Chairman and members of the Executive management of the Board of North East Development Commission:

3. Abdullahi Abbas – Member (North West – Kano)

6. Samuel Ifeanyi Umuigbo – Member (South East – Abia)
7. Frank Achilike Owoh – Member (South South – Rivers)

9. Musa Yashi – Executive Director, Humanitarian Affairs (North East- Bauchi)

POINT OF ORDER
Senator David Umahi cited Order 42 to inform
the Senate on the demise of former Senator Anyim Ude who represented Ebonyi South in the 6th Senate.

Senate observed a minute silence in honour of the deceased.

MOTION
1. Collapse of Road Infrastructure In Nigeria by Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin and 54 others

Senate resolved to:
i. Set up an Ad-hoc Committee to come up with a compendium of all the affected Federal roads and erosion sites across the country either awarded but abandoned by contracts or have not been awarded at all, to be forwarded to the Executive Arm for urgent intervention.

2. Age Requirement Precondition for employment in Nigeria: Urgent Need for Intervention by Senator Abba Moro

Senate resolved to:
i. Urge the Federal Ministry of Labour, Employment and Productivity to, immediately draw up policies that relate to equality of opportunity and treatment in access to employment at all levels;

ii. Also urge the Federal Ministry of Labour, Employment and Productivity, and other relevant Agencies to prohibit and discourage public and Private employees in Nigeria, from putting up jobs adverts with inherent undertone calculated to deprive any qualified Nigeria being gainfully employed merely by reason of his/her Nigerian of being gainfully employed merely by reason of his/her age; and

iii. Urge the Civil Service Commission and Office of the Head of the Civil Service to immediately revise their guidelines on appointments and promotions in the Federal Civil Service, to remove the impediments as it relates to conditions of appointment in the Federal Civil Service on account of age.

ADJOURNMENT
Senate stood down other items on the Order Paper till the next legislative day.
