Deputy Senate President Ovie 0mo-Agege led the Principal Officers into the Chamber, took the official prayers and began the day’s proceedings at 10:56am.
VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS
Senator Degi-Eremienyo moved for the adoption of the Votes and Proceedings of Thursday, 14th April, 2022.
Senator Betty Apiafi seconded.
PETITION
Senator Ayo Akinyelure presented two petitions from the Office of the President of the Senate:
1. Petition from M. I Mustapha against the Hon. Minister of Education and the Executive Secretary of TETFUND over the appointment of Arch. Sonny Echono as the Executive Secretary for Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) in violation of the Law: A call for adherence to the rule of law.
2. Petition from Oluwasetimipe D. Aboyewa and Joel Sambo Samuel on behalf of 32 dismissed employees of NECO against the Registrar of National Examination Council (NECO) on the illegal termination of the appointment of thirty-two (32) NECO employees recruited in December 2017: A call for Senate investigation for reinstatement and payment of salaries and allowances due
Petitions were laid and referred to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to report back in two weeks.
NOTICE OF DEMISE OF A HON. MEMBER
Acting Senate Leader, Senator Ajayi Borrofice rose to inform the Senate on the death of Hon. Ekpeyong Basey of Oron Federal Constituency, who died on Monday, 25th April, 2022.
“As it is customary with our tradition, we will adjourn plenary in memory of our demised colleague in the House of Representatives. Before we do so, I think we should rise for a minute silence.” – Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege
Senate observed a minute silence in honour of the late Hon. Ekpeyong Bassey.
ADJOURNMENT
Acting Senate Leader, Senator Ajayi Borrofice moved that Plenary be adjourned till another legislative day.
Minority Whip, Senator Philip Aduda seconded.
Plenary was adjourned till Wednesday, 27th April, 2022.
