Welcome to a new Legislative Day in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Senate President Ahmad Lawan led the Principal Officers into the Chamber, took the official prayers and began the day’s proceedings at 9:10am.

VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS

Senator Uche Ekwunife moved for the adoption of the Votes and Proceedings of Wednesday, 5th October, 2022.

Senator Aldulfatai Buhari seconded.

EXECUTIVE COMMUNICATION

Senate President Ahamd Lawan read two letters from President Muhammadu Buhari on:

1. Transmission of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Bill, 2022 and the Constitution of the Federal Government of Nigeria Alteration Bill, 2022 to the National Assembly for consideration; and

2. Transmission of the Federal Capital Territory 2022 Statutory Budget proposal for consideration.

JOINT SESSION OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

Senate Leader, Senator Ibrahim Gobir moved a motion for the Senate to sit in a joint session with the House of Representatives to receive an address by President Muhammadu Buhari on the 2023 Appropriation Bill.

Minority Leader, Senator Philips Aduda seconded.

POINT OF ORDER

Senator Uche Ekwunife cited Order 41 and 51 to seek the leave of the Senate to present a motion on the urgent need for the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development to commence activities at the abandoned National Youth Centre facility in Anambra State.

Senator George Sekibo seconded.

Senate resolved to:

i. Urge the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports to immediately put the Centre in use; and

ii. Mandate the Senate Committee on Sports to investigate the circumstances that led to the abandonment of the facility.

At the joint session of the National Assembly, Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha moved that the joint session adjourn sine die.

Senator Stella Oduah seconded.

 

Senate President Ahmad Lawan led the Principal Officers and other Distinguished Senators back into the Chamber.

ADJOURNMENT

Senate Leader, Senator Ibrahim Gobir moved that Senate do adjourn Plenary till another legislative day.

Minority Leader, Senator Philips Aduda seconded.

Plenary was adjourned to Wednesday, 12th October, 2022.
