In what is easily interpreted as Abuja’s unease with Sunday Igboho’s frontal tackling of Fulani who are believed to be responsible for kidnapping and other crimes in parts of Oyo State,  the Muhammadu Buhari Presidency has urged the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, not only to arrest Mr Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, but also to prosecute him.

A presidential aide, Lauretta Onochie, sent the pointed arrest-and-prosecute-Igboho message to the governor on Saturday via her twitter handle while commending to the order by the Oyo state government to the police to arrest Sunday Igboho.

Igboho, who is referenced as a Yoruba activist for participating actively in the Modakeke-Ife war, recently gave a quit notice to herdsmen occupying the Ibarapa area of the state.

Igboho and his followers had before Friday, January 22, defied Governor Makinde’s several orders.

Reacting to the Friday move by the state government, Lauretta Onochie, said that Igboho must be dealt with so that his case could serve as a deterrent to other persons who intended to follow his trajectory.

On her Twitter page, Onochie wrote on Saturday, January 23: “Oyo: Makinde orders the police to arrest Sunday Igboho, others over Fulani quit notice.

“Mr Governor, that’s how to show that you are the Chief Security Officer of Oyo State and that you are in charge.

“Please ensure prosecution serves as a deterrent”.

Earlier, Igboho had dared the government of Oyo state to arrest him.

His audacious disposition was a follow up to his  his “leave order” to Fulani herders in Igangan community.

Igboho on Friday, January 22, stormed the town in Ibarapa East local government area of Oyo state after the expiration of his seven-day ultimatum to the Fulani herders to vacate the community.

He had a week ago visited the community to issue the quit notice to herdsmen residents in the area during which he confronted their leaders and accused them of perpetrating criminal activities.

He was reportedly said to have insisted that Seriki, a popular herder, must leave the tow.

He said so many people fingered the Seriki to be behind the insecurity in the area.

in a BBC interview conducted in Yoruba, Igboho confirmed he went to see the Seriki but his men shot at him severally but he was able to disarm some of the gunmen.

On Friday, two people were killed while houses and eleven cars were burnt, accordingbto a report by NewsBreakNG in a report on Saturday.
