Bishop of Akoko Edo Diocese, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, The Rt Rev. Jolly Oyekpen, is dead.
The church on Monday said he passed away peacefully in the early morning of August 29, 2022, at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Edo State after he complained of brief illness.
He was born on the 7th of September, 1966.
Announcing the death on the ministry’s news website, the church said: “With great sadness but glory to God Almighty, the announces the death of The Rt Rev. Jolly Oyekpen.
“We offer sympathies and prayers for his family, to the priests, friends and the faithful whose lives he touched throughout his years of priestly and episcopal ministry.
“His approachable and youthful nature will be how Bishop Oyekpen will be remembered as he was the Bishop coordinator to the Anglican Youth Fellowship of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion until 2021. He was elected bishop in 2007 to pioneer the Diocese of Akoko-Edo.”
The church called for prayers for the late cleric’s wife, family, friends and the Diocese he left behind.
According to the statement, “burial arrangements will be announced in the days ahead.”
