Pomp and circumtance on Wednesday hallmarked socio-political interactions in the Ondo State Government House after the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Akure validated the election of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The verdict confirmed his victory in the November 16, 2024, governorship election in Ondo State.
Delivering its judgement on the petitions, the tribunal, chaired by Justice Benson Ogbu, dismissed the cases brought by the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Agboola Ajayi, and other challengers.
The panel ruled unanimously that the petitioners failed to present sufficient evidence to support claims of electoral malpractices or violations of the Electoral Act.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, reacting to the judgement, thanked the people of Ondo State for their support and acknowledged what he described as the triumph of democracy.
He called on political opponents to put differences aside and work together for the progress of the state.
On his part, counsel to the PDP, Mr Olujimi Oluseye, said the party would soon announce its next steps in response to the tribunal’s decision.
