The Nigeria Police Force has summoned activist Martins Otse, aka VeryDarkMan, to substantiate claims that some officers at checkpoints work with kidnappers and bandits.
In a statement on Thursday by Force PRO, CSP Ani Iniedu, the police said the invitation followed Otse’s remarks at the NBA conference in Port Harcourt.
VeryDarkMan alleged that officers manning highways profile wealthy travellers and pass their details to kidnappers to enable abductions for ransom.
The Force described the claim as “serious, unsubstantiated and damaging to the institution,” adding that while it takes misconduct allegations seriously, such statements must be backed with evidence.
