Police rescue kidnapped victims in Bayelsa, Adamawa

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has intensified its campaign against organized crime, successfully rescuing kidnapped victims in Bayelsa and Adamawa States through coordinated and intelligence-driven operations.

In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said on March 7, 2025, at approximately 3:03 pm, the police responded swiftly to a distress call reporting the abduction of Mr. Loveday Akari, Special Assistant to the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), in Ayakoro Community, Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.

A rapid and strategic operation, supported by other security agencies, led to the rescue of Mr. Akari and another victim, both unharmed and without any ransom payment.

He said in Adamawa State, following the abduction of two Catholic priests — Reverend Fathers Abraham Samman and Matthew David Dusami — on February 21, 2025, police launched a targeted operation.

The breakthrough came with the arrest of Tahamado Jonathan Demian, 34, suspected to be connected to the kidnapping.

The well-coordinated rescue operation on March 8, 2025, led to the safe recovery of both priests, who are currently receiving medical care.

A locally fabricated assault rifle, ammunition, a handset, and SIM cards were recovered during the operation.

Investigations are ongoing, with efforts to apprehend other suspects still at large.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the officers involved for their bravery and professionalism.

He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to dismantling organized crime networks and ensuring the safety of all citizens.

The police have urged the public to cooperate by providing timely and accurate information to help combat crime more effectively.
