The Nigeria Police Force has released the father of Prince Matthew Adeniyi Adeyemi after several hours of questioning over the whereabouts of his son, who is facing criminal charges in connection with the alleged operation of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, PFIPC.
According to The PUNCH, the elderly man regained his freedom after being questioned by police investigators following his arrest on Monday.
A neighbour of the family, who spoke anonymously after his release, said:
“Baba has been released. He was questioned about his son’s whereabouts and the police also took a list of the contacts on his phone. We don’t know what they want to use it for.”
The development came a day after police officers reportedly stormed the family’s residence in an attempt to arrest Adeyemi. After failing to find him, the officers allegedly took his father into custody for questioning.

Residents alleged that several police vehicles arrived at the residence and that neighbours were prevented from interfering while security operatives remained in the area after the arrest.

Reacting to the incident, human rights lawyer Femi Falana, who is representing Adeyemi, condemned the arrest, describing it as unlawful.
He argued that security agencies should not intimidate or harass relatives of suspects during investigations.
Falana maintained that his client had not absconded and had consistently shown his willingness to face trial.
According to him, Adeyemi had already appeared before the court on four occasions and had undertaken to appear again when the matter resumes on July 27.

The senior lawyer further argued that arresting the suspect’s father was unnecessary, insisting that the allegations against his client should be determined in court rather than through what he described as the intimidation of family members.
He reaffirmed that Adeyemi would be present at the next hearing scheduled for July 27.
