The Zamfara State Command of the Nigeria Police on Saturday debunked a trending story on social media platforms, alleging that seven serving soldiers of the Nigerian Army have been arrested by the Command for being deeply involved in banditry activities in Zamfara State.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Mohammed Shehu, said no arrest of military personnel as being speculated in social media.
He enjoined members of the public to disregard the fake news. Shehu warned against spreading fake and unsubstantiated information, adding that any person or group found will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
He urged members of the Press and other social media users to seek clarifications from appropriate authorities on any information that comes their way before going on air.
