The Niger State Police Command said it had recovered cattle stolen from Ibeto town in Mariga Local Government Area and arrested three suspects involved in their illegal sale in Lagos and Oyo States.

The Spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command and a Superintendent of Police, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this to newsmen.

Abiodun said a criminal complaint was received on November 13, 2025, prompting operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Minna, to investigate.

The probe led to the recovery of several rustled cows in Lagos and Oyo.

Three suspects — Naziru Mustapha, 25, of Ogbomosho, Oyo State; Husseini Abubakar, 30, of Mariga, residing in Ogbomosho; and Kabiru Magaji, 40, of Mariga, residing in Ogbomosho — have been arrested in connection with the case.

“Naziru and Husseini are alleged receivers of the rustled cattle, in whose possession eight cows were found and verified by the owners.

“Two other suspects, Bashar Sani and Ibrahim Tasiu, both indigenes of Mariga residing in Ogbomosho, are currently at large.

“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend them, while the investigation continues to identify other receivers and recover additional rustled cattle,” Abiodun stated.

The police have assured the public that all efforts are being made to bring the remaining suspects to justice and curb cattle rustling in the state.
