The Nigeria Police Force has struck a significant blow against terrorism with the neutralization of three Eastern Security Network (ESN) kingpins and the destruction of their camps in Imo State.
According to Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, this operation, part of ongoing efforts to enhance peace and public safety nationwide, was carried out by operatives of the Imo State Police Command.
On January 24, 2025, tactical operatives, acting on credible intelligence, stormed a terrorist hideout in the Ihube forest, Okigwe Local Government Area.
The operatives encountered heavy gunfire from the suspected IPOB/ESN terrorists but responded with remarkable bravery, engaging in a fierce gun battle.
The operation resulted in the neutralization of six ESN members, including key kingpins identified as Ifeanyi Anayo (a.k.a. Zuma De Rock), 28; Chukwuemeka Odionyenfe (a.k.a. Nmimi), 22; and Kingsley Sunday, 21—all natives of Ogube, Ihube, Okigwe.
Security forces recovered five AK-47 rifles, 552 rounds of live ammunition, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), communication gadgets, and eight operational motorcycles.
Investigations have linked the group to numerous high-profile crimes, including the 2021 Owerri Correctional Center attack, the killing of five policemen in December 2022, and multiple kidnappings involving WAEC staff, reverend sisters, and Chinese nationals.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun commended the operatives for their courage and urged all police commands to maintain momentum in crime reduction efforts.
The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to foster national peace and safety.
