A theft complaint has turned into a suspected ritual case after police arrested a 29-year-old man and recovered what they described as human remains and an expended AK-47 shell from his home in Ile-Oluji.
The Ondo State Police Command said Awomehinde Tope was arrested on 11 April 2026 following a report by his father, Awomehinde Kehinde, that his son stole three Bajaj motorcycles, nine goats, palm oil, four Android phones, two gas cylinders, gold ornaments, and rugs.
Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal said operatives traced one of the stolen rugs to Olawale Sunday, who allegedly bought it from the suspect. A search of Tope’s residence followed.
Items recovered include a bone suspected to be human remains, two native sponges, fetish objects, black soap, and an expended AK-47 shell. The bone has been sent for forensic analysis, police said.
Two other men — John Vincent, 22, and Olakintan Oladele, 29 — were arrested at Olawale Sunday’s residence after they “failed to give satisfactory explanations” about their presence and the recovered items.
All suspects have made statements and remain in custody, according to Police PRO DSP Abayomi Jimoh. CP Lawal has ordered a “full-scale investigation” into the origin and purpose of the exhibits, including possible wider criminal links.
The Command urged residents to report suspicious activity and assured the public of its commitment to safety. It said suspects will be charged to court after investigations.
