The Ogun State Police Command has officially acknowledged the apprehension of seven suspected cult members following a successful operation led by ACP Shehu Alao in collaboration with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) in Sagamu.

According to SP Omolola Odutola, the Police Public Relations Officer at Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, the operation was prompted by a report of a violent clash between two rival cult factions, Aiye and Eiye, resulting in the tragic demise of four individuals at Ewu Iya Sunday in SAKURA.

Upon receiving this information, the Area Commander promptly mobilized additional personnel to the scene to prevent any further escalation of violence and to detain those responsible for the unrest.

Consequently, seven suspected cultists were apprehended during the operation, which also resulted in the recovery of a firearm, three live cartridges, and a criminal talisman.

Among the individuals taken into custody were Asaiye Omolaja, Azeez Nofiu, Mathew Adewale, and Bolaji Ogunkemaya.

It is noteworthy that Bolaji Ogunkemaya was discovered in the same room as the four deceased individuals when the violent incident took place, while another individual named Wasiu managed to evade capture before the authorities arrived.

During the operation, Bolaji Ogunkemaya provided crucial information, revealing that their leader, known as Azubuike, alias “BETTER,” had been apprehended by the Area Commander two weeks prior.

“This information underscores the police force’s dedication to dismantling these criminal networks,” the Police said.

In response to the troubling surge in cult-related violence, Commissioner of Police CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha personally visited Sagamu on the morning of September 18, 2023 to assess the situation firsthand and to profile all the detained suspects.

CP Mustapha issued a stern warning to all cultists in Ogun State, emphasizing that their activities would no longer be tolerated.

He declared a zero-tolerance policy towards senseless killings and vowed that none of these cult members would escape justice.
