Police confirm arrest of ex-service Army personnel for armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms

The Zamfara State Command of Nigeria Police has confirmed the arrest of ex-Cpl Sa’idu Lawal ‘M’ aged 41 years’ old who was attached to 73 Battalion Janguza Army Barracks, Kano, for armed robbery, illegal possession of prohibited firearms and gun running.

Police Public Relations Officer, Zamfara State Command, SP Mohammed Shehu disclose this at press conference on Wednesday 31st August, 2022.

Shehu said the suspect who has been disturbing the peace and security of Zamfara State and neighbouring Katsina, Kaduna, Niger, Kebbi and Sokoto States was arrested at about 1730hrs along Abuja–Kaduna enroute Zamfara State by the tactical/escort team attached to the Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Police, acting on actionable intelligence.

He said 1 AK-47 rifle breech No. Q971987, 1 AK-49 rifle breech No. 34-7094, 200 7.6mm rounds of live ammunition, 501 7.62X51mm rounds of GPMG live ammunition and 8 empty magazines were recovered from the suspect

Shehu added that in the course interrogation, the suspect confessed that he was to convey the said exhibits from Loko Local Government Area of Nasarawa State to his customer, one Dogo Hamza ‘M’ of Bacha village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

He said the suspect further confessed that he had previously supplied same consignment to his other customers in Kaduna, Katsina, Niger and Kebbi States respectively.

Shehu said discreet investigation is in progress with a view to arresting his partners of this dastardly crime.
