The Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have committed to a strong collaboration aimed at ensuring the safety and security of the residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its surrounding areas.
This commitment was solidified during a recent meeting between the FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Olusola Odumosu, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.
In an official statement released on Friday by Comfort Okomanyi, the spokesperson of the FCT Command of the NSCDC, it was announced that Olusola Odumosu, the FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, assured the IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, of a continued and harmonious working relationship with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
Their aim is to jointly provide robust security measures for the residents of the FCT and its surroundings.
During his courtesy visit to the IGP at the Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters in Abuja, Odumosu acknowledged the existing relationship between police officers and civil defenders but stressed the importance of strengthening this bond across all ranks and sectors.
He emphasized that enhancing this partnership would lead to a more secure environment for all.
Odumosu expressed his deep concerns about the rising levels of criminal activity and vandalism of critical assets and infrastructure within the FCT.
Consequently, he stressed the need for closer collaboration with the police and other security agencies to effectively combat these criminal activities.
The Commandant reaffirmed his dedication and commitment to improving security in the country, particularly as he had recently assumed the role of Commandant in charge of the NSCDC FCT Command, following a successful tenure as the Director of Public Relations (DPR) for NSCDC at the Corps National Headquarters in Abuja.
Odumosu commended the IGP for his exceptional leadership, innovative initiatives, and reform efforts aimed at rejuvenating the Nigeria Police Force within a remarkably short period.
He also took the opportunity to congratulate the IGP on his well-deserved appointment, acknowledging his impressive career in public service.
He offered prayers for the IGP’s continued success and expressed hope that he would leave an indelible mark as one of the best IGPs the Force has ever had.
In a friendly gesture, the Commandant presented a congratulatory card to the IGP and conveyed the esteemed regards of the Commandant General (CG) of NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Audi.
In response, IGP Kayode Egbetokun warmly welcomed the FCT Commandant and assured him of the full support of the Nigeria Police Force whenever and wherever needed.
He wished Odumosu a successful tenure as the NSCDC FCT Commandant and encouraged him to perform exceptionally to justify the confidence placed in him by the CG.
Interestingly, it is worth noting that both the FCT Commandant and the IGP share the same alma mater, Awori Anglican Comprehensive High School (AACHS) in Ipaja, Lagos. Currently, this secondary school is celebrating its 50th-year Golden Jubilee Anniversary, with the IGP serving as the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Anglican Comprehensive High School Old Student Association (ANCOHS).
