Police arrest two suspects for ritual killing of four-year-old boy in Niger State

Police operatives attached to Lapai Division (HACE) arrested Mubarak Yunusa and Emmanuel Okuagba for the ritual killing of a four-year-old boy, Hussaini Ibrahim, of Angwan Hausawa area of Lapai, Niger State.

Confirming the report, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu A. Abiodun, said on 20/05/2022 at 2100hrs, information was received that one Mubarak Yunusa, aged 27yrs, ‘m’ of Magaji primary school area, was sighted with a strange sack heading towards a stream in the area.

He said upon the receipt of this information, Police operatives attached to Lapai Division arrested the said Mubarak Yunusa.

Abiodun said during interrogation, the suspect confessed that he dumped a dead body, packaged in a sack at a river within Lapai area.

Abiodun said the suspect further confessed that the sack was given to him by his shop landlord, one Emannuel Okuagba, aged 43yrs, ‘m’ of Anambra State, who resides in Lapai.

The Command Police Public Relations Officer added that in the course of investigation, Mubarak led a team of Policemen to the river where a decomposed body of the said missing boy, concealed in a bag was recovered and taken to general hospital Lapai for autopsy.

Abiodun said the second suspect, Emmanuel was equally arrested and the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Monday Bala Kuryas, had ordered for a thorough investigation as the two suspects were transferred to SCID Minna for discreet investigation.

He said angry mob mobilized to Lapai Police Division demanding the release of the suspects for them to be lynched, but as their efforts were futile, the mob stormed the shop and house of the suspects and set ablaze.

Abiodun said the case was under investigation and the suspects will be arraigned immediately after investigation.

He urged members of the public to desist from mob violence, jungle justice and support the Police and other security agencies to carry out their lawful responsibility in ensuring dispensation of justice.

In a similar development, Police operatives attached to Chanchaga Division have also arrested one Lawali Abubakar aged 16yrs ‘m’ of Kasuwan-Gwari, Minna for attempt to exhume corpse.

Abiodun said the suspect was arrested at Chanchaga cemetery when he attempted to exhume a corpse from the grave.

He said during interrogation, the suspect confessed to have conspired with one Salisu of the same address, presently at large to get body parts and cloth of a corpse from the cemetery at the rate of five thousand.

Abiodun said the suspect equally engaged in a similar act in last year at Bosso cemetery where he exhumed and remove four fingers of a corpse.

He said the suspect confessed further that he was sent by one Sadiq to get the fingers and was paid three thousand naira.

Abiodun said the case was under investigation as effort to apprehend Hamisu and Sadiq was ongoing and suspect would be prosecuted accordingly after investigation.
