Police arrest suspected arms dealer, recover eight SMG rifles, ammunition in Kaduna

A combined team of police operatives from FIB, STS, TIU FHQ Abuja and the Operation Yaki of Kaduna Command has arrested suspected arms dealer, recovered eight SMG rifles and other ammunition around saminaka forest of Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Confirming the report, Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Muhammad Jalige, said the operatives who were trailing suspected bandits intercepted a Toyota Highlander vehicle with Reg.No LGT 582 JL

He said the occupants, on sensing danger posed by the Officers, shot at the operatives who responded.

In the counter offensives, the suspects, James Dung ‘M’ 30yrs and Joseph Oradboth of Jos town, Plateau state, were injured.

Jalige said an on-the-spot search of the vehicle was conducted and dangerous weapons including eight SMG rifles, one Beretta pistol, eleven AK47 magazines, 50 rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition were recovered.

He said the suspects were rushed to Barau Dikko Teaching hospital where one of them was confirmed dead.

Meanwhile, investigations into the matter have been launched and the remaining suspect confessed to be transporting the arms and ammunition to bandits in Niger, Kaduna, Zamfara and Katsina States.
