Police operatives attached to Intelligence unit of Niger State Police Command, acting on a technical intelligence of a plan to kidnap some worshipers on 21/11/2021 in a Church at Buku village, Abaji area council of FCT Abuja, have arrested one Umar Samaila age 50yrs ‘m’ of Gussasu village via Maikunkele, Bosso Local Government Area of Niger State in connection with the purported crime.
The Command Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu A. Abiodun, said during interrogation that the suspect confessed to being the spiritual leader to some notorious bandits hibernating in Niger, FCT Abuja and Nasarawa States.
Abiodun further stated that the suspect said during his last conversation with his gang on the same date about 0720hrs, that he directed them to go ahead for the operation and assured them of success.
He said the suspect also promised to pray for the release of a suspected bandit known as ‘JULLI’ currently in Police custody in Abuja.
Abiodun said the suspect would be transferred to FCT Command, Abuja, for further investigation.
In a related report, a joint Police/vigilante attached to Lapai Division of the state have also arrested four
suspected kidnappers and recovery of 40 cattle.
“On 16/11/2021 about 1700hrs, information received from a credible source revealed that some suspected kidnapppers/cattle rustlers were sighted at Maijaki forest via Lapai and Rafindaji forest, boundary between Niger and FCT Abuja.
“On receipt of this information, a joint Police/vigilante attached to Lapai Division were mobilized to the forests and the following suspects were arrested with recovery of forty (40) cows and fifteen (15) sheep in their possession,” Abiodun said.
He said the suspects were Abubakar Alh. Buba, aged 27yrs ‘m’ of Babana village, Borgu Local Government Area, Shehu Mallam Jare, aged 20yrs ‘m’ of Rafindaji village via Lapai, Abubakar Garba, aged 44yrs and Abubakar Na’Allah, aged 25yrs both ‘m’ of Maijaki village via Lapai.
The Command Police Public Relations Officer said during interrogation that the suspects claimed to be rearing cattle in the said forests but could not give satisfactory account of the cattle in their possession.
He added that the case was under investigation while the suspects would be arraigned for prosecution immediately after investigation was concluded.
Abiodun reassure members of the public that the Command under the leadership of CP Monday Bala Kuryas would not relent in the ongoing onslaught against crime and criminality in the State, while soliciting for cooperation of Niger residents towards exposing suspected criminals in our communities.
