The Bayelsa State Police Command has apprehended six suspects linked to the August killing of Police Constable Oboh Goodluck by suspected cultists in the OMPADEC area of Amarata, Yenagoa.
Commissioner of Police, Francis Idu, confirmed the arrests during a Service of Songs and Lying in State ceremony for the slain constable.
CP Idu disclosed that a key suspect, wanted for multiple murder cases, remains at large but assured that the police are closing in.
“We will ensure all those involved in this heinous act are brought to justice,” Idu stated, emphasising the force’s commitment to cracking down on violent attacks against officers.
He warned perpetrators that the police would deploy all resources in apprehending them.
Idu praised Constable Oboh’s bravery, noting that he confronted seven hoodlums to protect the public, sacrificing his life in the line of duty. “Goodluck Oboh gave his life to save the Bayelsa citizenry.
He acted within the law as a true peacekeeper,” he said. The commissioner announced plans to request that Governor Douye Diri designate the site of the killing as a monument in Oboh’s memory.
Idu reassured the deceased’s family and police officers that the Nigerian Police Force would stand firmly behind its personnel, ensuring severe consequences for attackers.
Speaking on behalf of the Ayadei/Oboh family, Comrade Kwokwo Robert expressed gratitude to the police for their support during the constable’s burial rites but demanded justice.
“Those responsible for our son’s killing should pay the supreme price,” he said.
The investigation remains ongoing as the police work to apprehend the remaining suspects.
