The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old suspected newly recruited member of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during a joint patrol in Kaiama Local Government Area.

Security sources told Blueblood News that the suspect, identified as Mallami Abubakar, was apprehended on Thurs at about 8:00 a.m. in Nanu community by a combined team of police operatives, national forest guards, and Kaiama vigilante groups.

The arrest, officials said, was part of intensified security surveillance across forested and border communities in the state.

Abubakar, who hails from Isanlu-Dankuturu in Kogi State, was immediately taken into custody for questioning.

During interrogation, he allegedly confessed that he had been contacted by a friend known only as “Babi” from Babana village in Niger State, who encouraged him to join a suspected ISWAP/Lakurawa cell operating in the Farin Suna area of Baruten Local Government Area.

Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to verify his claims and to track other members of the network.

The command reassured residents that it will continue working closely with other security agencies and local vigilante units to flush out criminal elements in the state.
