Police operatives attached to Maitumbi Division, Niger State Command, have arrested one Emmanuel Dominic, aged 24yrs ‘m’ of Tunga area, Minna.
In a statement, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu A. Abiodun said the suspect dressed in Nigerian Army camouflage, went to the Police Division and paraded himself as a soldier of Nigerian Army with service no. 05313 attached to TRADOC, Minna to secure the release of his friend in Police custody.
Abiodun said during interrogation, the suspect was discovered to be a fake soldier and subsequently arrested, while he later confessed that he had been a barrack boy at Army barrack in Minna.
Abiodun said the suspect also claimed that the uniform in his possession belonged to his late father whom he said was a soldier.
He said exhibits recovered from the suspect during investigation included one wooden carved gun, two axe, one jackknife, two kit bags, two OG green trousers, one army camouflage vest, shirt, boot, face cap, and a walking stick.
Abiodun said the suspect was believed to have been robbing victims in Minna and its environs with the wooden carved gun, jackknife and the axe.
He said the case was under investigation, while the suspect would be arraigned for prosecution immediately after investigation was concluded.
In a related case, police operatives attached to Chanchaga Division have also arrested Hussaini Adamu (23yrs), Mustapha Umar (17yrs), Mande Magaji (17yrs), Suleiman Zubairu (16yrs) and Salisu Usman (receiver) (25yrs), all ‘m’ of Kasuwan-Gwari, Minna.
Abiodun said the suspects were arrested at Lapai-Gwari area on Building materials market road, Minna, by Police patrol team during routine patrol of the area.
He said the suspects conspired among themselves, vandalised two electric transformers in the area and carted away some of the electric cables.
Abiodun said during interrogation, four suspects arrested at the scene confessed to the crime and led the Police to Salisu Usman at Kasuwan-Gwari, Minna who bought the cables from the suspects.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects are three insulators and a vandalised electric transformer and the case is also under investigation.
The State Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Monday Bala Kuryas, reiterated that criminals should turn a new leaf or relocate from the state as Niger State would be too hot for them to operate.
