Police arrest 23 suspects, recover weapons during Christmas operations

The Nigeria Police Force has successfully apprehended 23 individuals suspected of involvement in armed robbery, cult activities, and kidnapping across multiple states during the Christmas celebrations.

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the operations were conducted under the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, as part of efforts to ensure public safety and security during the festive season.

On December 25, 2024, at approximately 1:00 a.m., operatives of the Lagos State Command swiftly responded to a distress call regarding hoodlums armed with dangerous weapons in the Safejo area of Amukoko, Lagos.

Their prompt intervention led to the arrest of three suspects: Emmanuel Okoli (20), Ogunde Tejiri (20), and Emmanuel Orji (18).

Weapons used in robbery attacks were recovered, and efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang who fled the scene.

In another operation on the same day, about 8:00 p.m., officers of the Saminaka Division, Kaduna State Command, apprehended Sule Muhammad (25), a suspect linked to multiple kidnapping incidents.

A fabricated AK-47 rifle was recovered during the arrest.

Muhammad confessed to being a member of a notorious kidnapping gang, and further investigations, he Adejobi said, were underway to apprehend his accomplices and recover additional weapons from their hideout.

ACP Adejobi also reported similar operational successes in Delta, Ogun, Katsina, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory, and Imo State, where multiple suspects were apprehended during the festive period.

The Inspector-General of Police commended the officers involved for their vigilance, professionalism, and dedication to duty, particularly during this period of heightened public activity.

He urged citizens to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activities, and assured the public of the Force’s unwavering commitment to creating a secure and peaceful environment for all festive celebrations.
