The Police on Thursday arraigned Rafiu Ademola, 39, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over alleged N1.4 million land fraud.
Ademola, whose address was not provided, was facing a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp Opeyemi Olagunju, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Feb. 20 at Ojoo Area of Ibadan.
Olagunju said that the defendant collected N1.4 million from the complainant, Mr Azeez Odunayo, on the pretext of selling him two plots of land, but failed to do so.
He said the defendant converted the money to his personal use.
Olagunju said that the offences contravened Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Gladys Oladele, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Oladele ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant.
She adjourned the case until Aug. 8 for mention.
