Police and INL collaborate to inaugurate specialized tactical training for SIS commanders and operatives

In a strategic partnership with the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the United States of America, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has jointly inaugurated a specialized tactical operational training program for Commanders of the recently launched Special Intervention Squad (SIS).

Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the initiative aligns with the commitment of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to enhance the capabilities of SIS personnel and ensure utmost professionalism in their responsibilities.

The specialized training is designed to prepare the trainees for the challenges associated with their new responsibility of assuming leadership roles in combating kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, terrorism, and other evolving crime challenges in society. The SIS is intended to anticipate, respond spontaneously, and manage crisis situations, which are crucial in safeguarding the lives and property of all Nigerians, upholding the supremacy of the state, and ensuring the rule of law to protect the integrity of the nation.

IGP Egbetokun noted that since the launch of the Federal Capital Territory Special Intervention Squad (FCT-SIS), notable achievements include the arrest of 139 kidnapping and armed robbery suspects and the interception of three major arms suppliers. He expressed sincere gratitude to the INL for their invaluable partnership and support in developing and implementing the training program. The IGP highlighted their commitment to fostering international cooperation and sharing best practices in law enforcement through fruitful collaboration.

In his remarks, Mr. Jason Smith, Director Narcotics at the US Embassy, representing the US Ambassador, reiterated the commitment of the US Government to supporting the NPF in sustaining the SIS and realizing its mandate to create a more secure society for Nigerians.

The Inspector General of Police commended the US Government and expressed anticipation that the specialized training for Commanders would significantly contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Special Intervention Squad in carrying out its vital mission to safeguard all citizens and uphold the rule of law in the country.
